CALICO TEAMS WITH WESTWOOD & WILSHIRE TO HIRE NEW HEAD OF ONCOLOGY RESEARCH

South San Francisco, California, May 3— Calico, the anti-aging research and development focused life sciences company, has hired Jonathan Powell as the new Head of Oncology Research. The company, founded by Alphabet, has recently entered clinical stage programs in a partnership with AbbVie in both neurodegeneration and immuno-oncology.

Dr. Powell joins Calico from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he served in multiple roles since 2001. Most recently, Dr. Powell held positions as Professor of Cancer-Immunotherapy and Associate Director of the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. He has over one hundred publications and peer reviewed articles and eight inventions and patents. Dr. Powell received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Dartmouth College and he earned his M.D. and his Ph.D. degree from Emory University.
